Fujiwara no Yasumasa (958-1036) was a celebrated poet in the Heian court.
At this time, the Heian court was in decline, and banditry and disorder were increasing in the countryside.
One moonlit night, as Yasumasa was strolling along the roadway on the lonely moor of Ichiharano,
the bandit Hakamadare Yasusuke lay in wait,to ambush and rob him.
As Yasumasa drew closer, the sound of his flute enchanted the highwayman,
who was to draw his sword, entirely charmed by the power of music . . . .

Takasago is originally the name of a place. The city of Takasago is about 80km west of our ancient capital, Kyoto. It is said that there was an old pine tree in Takasago and that the spirit of that pine tree was the spouse of another pine tree.
Based on this myth, an ancient Japanese play called Noh was written approximately 600 years ago. The story was about a couple of pine tree spirits who lived a long and happy life together. This Noh, titled Takasago, was very popular and influenced other aspects of Japanese culture. For instance, it was a common custom to sing a song taken from Takasago at wedding ceremonies and the custom still exists today. "Takasago" is supposed to be a happy word and this is why many Japanese shops, restaurants, and companies use the name Takasago. This is particularly true in the wedding industry.

Hanging Scroll: YORO Waterfall

Yoro waterfall is one of the top hundred best waterfalls in japan and very famous for it's story.

Long ago in the Mino region there lived a poor woodcutter who was very kind and caring toward his elderly father.
One day, when he was in the woods gathering firewood,
he noticed the aroma of sake (rice wine) wafting from around some mossy rocks.
Thinking this odd, he tasted the water that was flowing there and found that it did indeed taste of sake.
Delighted at his discovery, he filled his gourd flask with the liquid and took it home,
where his father also tasted it and confirmed with great joy that it was indeed rice wine of the finest quality.
Before long, news of the woodcutter's windfall had spread to Nara, the ancient capital.
Empress Gensho, who ruled Japan at the time, proclaimed that the gods must have rewarded the woodcutter for his filial piety.
The empress herself then traveled to the spot, bathed in the spring whose waters had turned to sake, and declared:
"This is a miraculous spring, a fountain of youth! I myself have been rejuvenated!"
In commemoration of these auspicious events, that year special awards and Imperial gifts were bestowed on all people aged eighty and over,
dutiful sons and daughters throughout the land were given official commendations in recognition of their filial piety,
and the era was renamed "Yoro," the era of "caring for the aged."

Jiang Ziya, a Chinese semi-mythological figure, resided  next  to the Weishui River about 3,000 years ago.
He often went angling at the Weishui River, but he would fish in a bizarre way.
He hung a straight hook, with no bait, three feet above the water. He over and over again said to himself,
"Fish, if you are desperate to live, come and gulp down the hook by yourself."
